This is when everyone will have clearer understanding of the goals, strategies and programs. The assessment of the transition plan will occur with a consultant conducting a survey to determine the weaknesses of the strategy and how it can be improved. They will make recommendations to the committee about the best way to implement these changes. An individual education program (IEP) is when the parents and educators of disabled students are working with them to create a customized learning strategy. During this process, the role of an advocate can be another educator, who is encouraging everyone to take a more active interest in the child's education. An advocate could become necessary in schools where many of the special needs students are being overlooked. In these kinds of situations, staff members are doing just enough to remain in compliance with the law. This is when an advocate can serve a role of helping to refocus the staff with IEPs. The way that this is achieved is by pushing everyone to do more in reaching out to students and begin working with parents. At the same time, the advocate will monitor what is occurring and makes suggestions for dealing with potential challenges. This is when there will be a change in the learning environment.
